Legore Boys & Girls Club Summer Bash!
We had yet another great event with our partners at The Boys and Girls Club this past week. Friday, July 22 we spent the day at Legore Boys and Girls Club for their annual “End of Summer Bash”! Approximately 175 kids, ranging in age from 5-18, showed up to eat some grilled hot dogs and play summer games. Royal United Mortgage LLC showed up with 8 energetic volunteers and enough hot dogs, chips, and drinks to feed well over the 175 who attended. The kids enjoyed popcorn, snow cones, bounce houses, and a dunk tank, as well as some other fun carnival games.
Kim Dehoney from Legore sent me an email shortly after the event that read: “I just wanted to reach out and let you and your team knows how much we appreciated all your help and financial support! We were able to send our entire kids home with some school supplies with the money we had set aside for the carnival! We know how hot it was and each of you was still happy and helpful! Thank you again!”…….So not only were we able to help provide a safe, fun outlet for some summer fun, but our financial support also enabled the club to help these kids out with some back to school supplies.
This was Faith Orono’s first volunteer experience with Royal United Mortgage LLC and The Boys and Girls Club, and her response to this experience was as follows: “Volunteering at the boys and girls club was quite the experience. There was such a diverse group of kids. I enjoyed seeing the cohesion and how the different kids worked together in complementing each other throughout the day. They were all very well behaved and well mannered. They were open and respectful to us as if we were counselors they had been working with throughout the summer”.
Another Royal United Mortgage LLC employee, Earl Sims, was a good enough sport to take a turn in the dunk tank. The kids had a great time putting him in the water (and I think Earl had ulterior motives considering it was over 90 degrees that day). Earl said “I had an amazing time showing up to have fun with the kids at the Boys & Girls Club. It was exciting to see them excited playing simple games and prizes for their effort! There was a lot of energy and made me remember how much it meant to enjoy life freely. Sip some drinks and run through the breeze of a cool fan in the heat makes a difference providing an exciting experience to kids who truly deserve to have fun too! They didn’t even know me before that day and just that small interaction of appreciation was significant to my week”.
So as you can see, not only do we change the lives of these children, but helping them also changes our lives as well. I know we all look forward to many more events with this great club.
