October Thoughts

The leaves that were so beautiful the first of the month are now covering lawns and clogging gutters; the stock market has been bouncing up and down like a yo-yo; the stores are filled with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations, and the wee ones are getting ready for their annual costumed sugar high. It must be the end of October.

Nobody wants to think about money right now. Too much going on to fret about the old furnace that chugged and coughed its way through last winter or remember all the remodeling plans you made last summer; and the memories of last spring’s list of, I’m-going-to get-this-done-before-next-year items have vanished with the warm weather.

But don’t worry right now about that burgeoning credit card debt or other insignificant problems like paycheck-draining mortgage payments. After all, things calm down in the next couple of months and you’ll have time to reflect and plan.

Wait…isn’t there some sort of family and friends feast in November and a holiday or two in December? Oh well, between the cooking, cleaning, shopping and festivities you’ll probably find the time to address your financial concerns.

Besides, don’t most people discover that if they put off addressing their financial problems until later, their problems will all go away?

Actually, the only thing that inaction guarantees is lost opportunity.
