Spring Home Maintenance Checks That Should Be On Your List
Do you have a home maintenance routine? Seasons change and your home needs a little love after the winter months. After all, it is one of your largest investments and caring for it over time will help you stay comfortable. It will help your home to be more efficient, plus it prevents you from having to deal with house fires, flooding, or other costly repairs in the future.
There are several items inside and outside of your home that may need attention. Know what to look for and don’t put off repairs. If you’re not handy, reach out to someone with experience in your community.
Below is a checklist for kick starting your Spring home maintenance efforts:
- Exterior Roof/Siding: Remove all debris. Repair missing shingles, wear on or around flashings and chimney and have flue cleaned. Repaint and/or power wash siding if needed.
- Drainage/Ventalation: Remove leaves from gutters, downspouts, and foundation vents. Ensure rainwater is being directed away from the foundation.
- Windows: Inspect seals. Fill cracks with caulk. Mend or replace screens.
- HVAC/Water Heater: Clean and service, change filters, and lubricate. Flush out water heater to remove sediment buildup.
- Lawn Care: Tune-up your equipment. Change engine oil. Replace or sharpen mower blades.
- Washer/Dryer: Check for cracked hoses. Clean lint from dryer vents.
- Smoke Alarms/CO Detectors: Replace if 8 to 10 years old. Install fresh batteries.
This checklist can help you get started but all items may not apply to your specific situation. Expand on it and make it your own!
It’s Spring – a great time to start fresh. If your home is ready for an upgrade or needs major repairs consider taking advantage of your home equity and get the project going. Take care of your home (because it takes care of you!)… Then relax and enjoy it!
