Veterans Day

TV shows, stock market investments, political leanings, clothes, sports teams, body art, foreign policy, raising children, food…the list is endless.

“Wait a minute,” you ask, “the list of what?”

I’m referring of course to the infinite number of topics on which we Americans love to assert our opinions, proclaim our intellectual expertise and, above all, disagree. And it doesn’t matter if we really know anything about a particular issue, we seem to feel constitutionally bound to opine, orate and bicker about it.

I will argue that there are only two things upon which the majority of us always would agree: 1) free speech and its inevitable accompanying dissension is our right and, 2) the reason we have that cherished right is because of our veterans.

All of our rights that we so casually take for granted were acquired only after great cost from a few, and are maintained only because a comparatively few of our sons and daughters still guard our ideals today. So this Veterans Day please join all of us here at Royal United Mortgage LLC as we freely express our appreciation to those current and past members of our Armed Services who have sacrificed so much.

But don’t limit your gratitude to just once a year; the next time you feel the urge to speak out about an injustice, complain about a perceived slight, or just whine that things aren’t going your way, look for a veteran to thank before you engage in verboseness. After all, they are the reason you can.
